About us

The purpose of our Summer Day Care Program is to give every boy and girl a meaningful, exciting, memorable and fun-filled summer experience.  The children learn to function in a diverse group setting while gaining an appreciation of day camping.

The Somerville YMCA Summer Day Care is a structured co-ed day care, meeting Monday through Friday.  Our schedule consists of 8 single week sessions.  It is open to boys and girls, 5 to 13 years of age (must be 6 by 9/1/11).  Each day, beginning at 8:00 am, the children are engaged in a carefully planned and diligently supervised program until 4:00 pm. Extended Care until 5:30 pm is available for each group.

PROGRAM DETAILS
The children will be grouped according to their age. In each session, they will participate in two or three all-day field trips.  Trips are taken to State Parks, beaches, amusement parks, museums, historical sites, sporting events and various educational sites.  Swimming, roller-skating, bowling, hiking, cookouts, fishing, softball, soccer and new games are only a few of the fun-filled activities scheduled for the youngsters throughout the summer.  In addition, while taking part in the activities at the YMCA, the children will receive swim lessons.  Swim Lessons will be provided by the YMCA Aquatic Department staff, as well as the Day Care staff.  Also included will be structured gym and arts & crafts classes.  Special activities will take place each afternoon.

STAFF
Our carefully chosen experienced staff will be aiming to make this summer an enjoyable time for your child.  Many of the staff are certified in C.P.R., Lifesaving and First Aid.  As always, we will employ staff members who have special training in working with children of varying cultures, as well as special needs youngsters.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS
Each child, prior to participating in the Somerville YMCA Summer Day Care Program, must have an up-to-date physical examination according to State Law.  School health records, if up-to-date, will fulfill this requirement.

T-SHIRTS
Each child will receive a T-shirt during their first week of day care.  We suggest that they wear their T-shirts on all field trip days.  Additional T-shirts can be purchased.

DAILY ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL POLICY
Each day runs from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.  For the safety of all children, it is YMCA policy that no youth be left unattended outside the building prior to or after day’s end.  All children must be signed in and out with our day care staff each day.  If your child has permission to walk home, please indicate so on the registration form.

Inclement weather is always a problem for children and staff alike.  Due to the high cost of rainy day indoor activities, we ask that on rainy days when children are scheduled to take an outdoor trip, parents send $5. along with each child.

BREAKFAST & LUNCH PROGRAM
We are a Peanut free facility.  As of this writing, the Summer Day Care Program will be participating in the Federal Summer Lunch Program which will provide each child with a well-balanced breakfast & lunch consisting of an entree, fruit, milk and a snack.  Parents have the option of providing their children with a bag lunch.  However, when packing a bag lunch, please do not include glass bottles or items that may easily spoil.  Parents should not rely on snack bars for lunches at the trip locations.  Children are not permitted to share food.
